Alabama authorities are offering 125 125,000 for information on arrests in five separate cases involving the shooting of children under the age of 10.
Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin told a news conference that six children had been shot since the beginning of the year and only one had been arrested.
Five of the shootings took place between February and May, and one of them killed a two-year-old boy, officials said.
Mr Woodfin announced gun violence against the children’s fund on Tuesday. Crime Stoppers is organized by a network of local programs working to prevent and solve this crime.
In each of the five cases, णा 25,000 will be paid to anyone who submits a tip leading to arrest.
“It simply came to our notice then. If a child is injured there is a line crossed, the line is crossed when the child is killed, Mr. Woodfin said.
Major Turner, 2, was shot when someone opened fire at his home in the Kimberly Homes housing community in Birmingham, central Alabama. He died the next day.
On Easter Sunday, April 4, five people, including a five-year-old boy, were shot dead in Patton Park. In May, a nine-year-old boy was injured while throwing a weapon at his home in central New Birmingham. An eight-year-old girl was shot and wounded on May 1 when her family stopped to help another driver. A five-year-old boy was shot and wounded on May 22, when two adults were in the car.
Katrina Grady, the mother of an eight-year-old girl, spoke at a news conference on Tuesday about what she experienced. She pulled over after seeing a vehicle with airbags on a road in west Birmingham.
As she approached the car, she realized that no one was inside. At that moment, she heard her neighbors shouting, “Get down!”
“When I got down, a vehicle hit the road and he started shooting again. It was a rifle bullet that hit my son in the head,” Ms. Grady said. Her daughter survived the trip.
“Who knows who did this for my son,” Ku. Grady added. “I want justice.”
Major Turner was killed at a public housing site in Birmingham. The Birmingham Housing Authority has 14 sites, and cameras, floodlights and license plate readers have died in all of their housing establishments since Major’s death.
