Amazon, the global e-commerce giant, has raised the bar for delivery services in India during the ongoing Great Indian Festival 2023, ensuring swift and efficient deliveries for its customers. Akhil Saxena, Amazon’s Vice President of APAC, MENA, LATAM, Customer Fulfilment, and Worldwide Customer Service, announced that this year’s festive season marked a remarkable acceleration in delivery speed, with a staggering 65% increase in packages receiving sub-same-day and same-day deliveries in the top 10 Indian cities compared to the previous year.
This initiative is part of Amazon’s ongoing commitment to delivering a seamless shopping experience to its customers during the festive season. The company’s focus on speed and efficiency has made this Diwali the fastest ever in terms of shipments reaching customers’ doorsteps.
Amazon’s impressive achievement in rapid deliveries can be attributed to its extensive delivery network and strategic collaborations. Key partnerships with India Post and Indian Railways have played a pivotal role in achieving this milestone. The collaboration with Indian Railways, established in 2019, witnessed a remarkable tenfold increase in railway lanes, with 325 inter-city transportation lanes integrated into Amazon’s operational network in India by 2022. Presently, almost 100 trains are dedicated to transporting Amazon shipments across the country daily.

To further enhance its delivery capabilities, Amazon introduced Amazon Air earlier this year, utilizing two Boeing 737-800 aircraft to serve nine cities across India. This addition has significantly bolstered Amazon’s capacity to fulfill orders swiftly and reliably. To accommodate the surge in deliveries, Amazon has expanded its fulfillment centers in India to almost 43 million cubic feet, a substantial increase from the mere 0.2 million in 2013. Furthermore, the company operates 2.3 million square feet of sorting centers across 19 states in the country, ensuring that orders are processed efficiently.
Amazon’s commitment to India is evident in its recent announcement of a substantial $15 billion investment in the country by 2030. This massive investment raises Amazon’s cumulative commitment to India to an impressive $26 billion. Akhil Saxena emphasized the importance of speed and efficiency in catering to Indian customers and highlighted Amazon’s dedication to making strategic investments in India’s growing market.
As the Great Indian Festival 2023 continues, Amazon’s focus on delivering an unmatched customer experience by speeding up deliveries is set to leave a lasting impact on India’s e-commerce landscape. With its extensive delivery network, strategic partnerships, and significant investments, Amazon continues to shape the future of online shopping in India, making it faster, more reliable, and more convenient than ever before.
