The record fell at Warner Park as Jamaica Tarawa destroyed the Saint Lucia Kings with 120 runs to record the biggest victory in Caribbean Premier League (CPL) history on Friday. Tarawa contributed throughout, but it was Andre Russell who was the most brutal and won only 14 to 50. This is also a CPL record. Kings was given the huge goal of 256 runs to win the game, but never actually found a partnership that would approach Tarawa’s efforts.
Tarawa was batted by Kings and given a lightning-fast start thanks to Kenner Lewis, who smashed only 22 balls to 48 runs in innings containing five giant sixs.
Lewis was well supported by Chadwick Walton, who was measured while his opening partner was free to score, but he opened his shoulders shortly after Lewis was dismissed by Loston Chase.
Tarawa lost Walton at 47, but did not slow them down with a run from Heider Ally and Robman Powell.
The final touch of a great Jamaican batting performance came from Russell, who scored at a strike rate of 357.14. Russell’s ability to hit the ball was amazing as Kings Bowler couldn’t find an answer to his brutal blow.
There were some amorous blows from Lucky Cornwall when King Inning began, but then the ticket gates began to fall regularly.
Kings lost Cornwall and Fuff Dupresis in their first over, and by the end of powerplay they were 66/6, eliminating all chances of an unlikely victory.
The star with the Tarawa ball was Michael Praetorius, who made his CPL debut and returned a 4/32.
The only outstanding batter was Tim David, an inform who made 28-56. Sadly he lacked support when Kings stumbled upon 135.
