Lowville, NY (CBSNewYork) — Hospitals in northern New York will stop giving birth in the maternity ward next week because too many workers have resigned due to vaccination obligations.
Officials at Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville have stated that the unit could not be safely staffed and will not give birth until September 24th.

The CEO of the county health system said six employees in the maternity ward resigned instead of taking COVID shots, and seven more are undecided.

“If we can suspend services and focus on hiring vaccinated nurses, we will be able to re-engage in baby births here in Lewis County,” said Gerald Kayer.
Cayer says 27% of hospital workers have not yet been vaccinated.
