Two bosses in the construction industry have given staff some additional cash to make up for rising living costs in the UK.
Britain is facing rising inflation, an energy crisis and tax increases, and many are worried about how they can afford to live.
All of these problems that hit households at once are expected to lead to the greatest decline in living standards since the record began in 1956.
However, at least two managers have endeavored to help workers over this difficult time.
David Anderson, 52, has decided to give all 58 Joseph Par workers £ 750 each as an “energy supplement.”
This is after a staff member of a Stockton-on-Tees Portrack-based builder merchant was given a salary increase in January to compensate for rising inflation.
David said: “When I talk to individual members of the staff, I’m afraid the fuel will go up. They used to put 60 pounds in the tank, but now it’s 80 pounds. I give them a little boost. I thought it was a good idea.
Similarly, 72-year-old Alex Vickers donated £ 250 to each of Vickers Construction’s 21 employees to support their living expenses.
He said:’We can see things rising and we’re just trying to help them. It’s getting pretty serious.
“There are some single young people and I expect them to pass it on to their mother towards the bill.
“The staff were like a big family and we’ve been together for a long time. I’ll help them as much as I can. I listened to them and understood (how they feel).
Alex said he himself was in pain from the financial crisis, both at home and in his company based in Teesside’s Stockton.
“250 pounds isn’t fortunate, but I think it helps a bit,” he added.
