Coach Deion Sanders didn’t provide many details after the game but mentioned that the initial information he received was that Hunter would be sidelined for a few weeks. During the third quarter, Hunter was taken to the hospital for a thorough evaluation.
Sanders didn’t go into specifics about Hunter’s injury, but losing him is a big blow, as defensive back Shilo Sanders explained, “Losing Travis feels like losing two players at once.”
In the second quarter, Hunter took an illegal hit to his midsection near the Colorado sideline. The play resulted in two penalties against Colorado State: Nickelback Ayden Hector was flagged for pass interference, and safety Henry Blackburn was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct due to a late hit out of bounds.
Despite initially leaving the game, Hunter returned to play on both offense and defense in the second quarter. The Buffaloes were trailing the Rams 21-14 when Hunter was sent to the hospital, but they managed to rally for their third consecutive win.
Hunter, who also plays as a cornerback and wide receiver, has been a standout performer alongside Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Both are early contenders for the Heisman Trophy.
