In a shocking incident in Punjab’s Kapurthala district, a police constable lost his life, and five others were injured when a group of ‘Nihangs’ opened fire on them. The unfortunate event unfolded in Sultanpur Lodhi as the police attempted to apprehend members of the Nihang community, armed with traditional weapons, in connection with a registered case.
The incident occurred while the policemen were on the road, seeking to execute the arrest. According to Kapurthala Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Tejbir Singh Hundal, the Nihangs unleashed gunfire upon the police officers, resulting in the tragic death of one constable and injuries to two other personnel.
The authorities have swiftly responded to the situation, with senior officials rushing to the site. Extensive police deployment has been implemented in the area to maintain order and security.
The motive behind the Nihangs’ resistance and the subsequent use of lethal force remains under investigation. The clash underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement when dealing with armed groups and highlights the risks officers encounter in the line of duty.
As the community mourns the loss of a dedicated police constable and prays for the swift recovery of the injured personnel, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the complex nature of law enforcement operations and the need for continued efforts to ensure the safety of those who serve and protect.
