According to diplomats, the European Union will recommend stopping unnecessary trips from the United States because of the Covid-19 epidemic.
European authorities have been considering this move for most of last month, with average US prevalence now higher than EU prevalence.
Last week, the EU President of Slovenia recommended removing the United States and five other countries from the list of countries. The final decision is scheduled for Monday. The two diplomats said they had not recognized the objection so far.
The EU travel list, which is reviewed every two weeks, is not binding on Member States, but generally sets the pattern for the past few months of who can visit the block. In some countries, we may decide to continue the permit if we can prove that US tourists have been vaccinated.
As Washington maintains a ban on unnecessary travel to the United States in Europe, there is also increasing pressure to remove the United States from the travel list.
