Fabuloso Issues Recall of Nearly 5 Million Bottles of Cleaning Product Due to Risk of Infection

Colgate-Palmolive, the New York-based consumer goods giant, has recently announced a recall of nearly 5 million bottles of its popular multipurpose cleaning product, Fabuloso. The recall has been initiated in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) due to the risk of exposure to bacteria.

The affected products may contain Pseudomonas species bacteria, which can pose a serious risk of infection for people with weakened immune systems, external medical devices, or underlying lung conditions. This same bacteria was also linked to a recent recall of 8 million laundry and cleaning products from The Laundress.

The recall was caused by a manufacturing error, in which a preservative was not added at the intended levels during production, leading to the potential growth of bacteria in the products. Although the recall covers 4.9 million bottles produced in December and January, roughly 3.9 million bottles were never released for sale.

Colgate-Palmolive and the CPSC have noted that people with healthy immune systems are usually not affected by bacteria, which are environmental organisms commonly found in soil and water. The company has assured consumers that they can request a refund or a replacement for the affected products.

Fabuloso, a staple in many Latino households, is among Colgate-Palmolive’s mainstay home-cleaning products, along with Ajax and Palmolive dish detergents. Colgate-Palmolive is a multi-faceted company that produces a wide range of products, including oral care items such as toothpaste, personal care products such as deodorant and soap, and pet care goods.

This recall is not the first for Colgate-Palmolive. In 2020, the company conducted a voluntary recall of some canned dog food under its Hill’s Pet Nutrition brand due to potentially elevated levels of vitamin D. Although recalls can be disruptive for companies, it is crucial for companies to prioritize the safety and well-being of their customers and take swift action when potential risks are identified.

It is essential to note that recalls like this can have significant impacts on a company’s reputation, especially in the case of widely used and well-known products such as Fabuloso. However, it is commendable that Colgate-Palmolive is taking prompt action to address the issue and minimize any potential harm to its customers.

Consumers who have purchased the affected Fabuloso products should take the necessary precautions and either return the products for a refund or request a replacement. They should also be vigilant in checking the products they use in their daily lives to ensure they are safe and do not pose any potential health risks.

In conclusion, the recall of nearly 5 million bottles of Fabuloso cleaning products serves as a reminder of the importance of product safety and the role companies play in ensuring the well-being of their customers. It also highlights the need for consumers to stay informed and take proactive steps to protect themselves and their families. Colgate-Palmolive’s prompt action in addressing the issue sets a positive example for other companies and underscores the importance of prioritizing customer safety.
