Alastair Cook is the highest run-getter for England in Test cricket.
Sir Alastair Cook is one of the finest Test batters and captains to have represented England for more than a decade and was also a pioneer in their red-ball success in the last decade. While it has been nearly four years since Cook has bid adieu to international cricket, he continues to play County cricket where he currently represents Essex.
During his playing days, the Gloucestershire cricketer had a sound batting technique, especially in Tests where he successfully crossed 12,000 runs and is one of the few batters in world cricket to have reached the milestone. Lately, the veteran batter was clean bowled by a teenager during a village cricket match and the video of it has gone viral.

In a video posted on Twitter, Alastair Cook’s stumps were left shattered by a youngster after the former looked to take him to the cleaners during what was a village cricket match. The name of the bowler who took the prized scalp is Kyran Shackleton who is a 15-year-old emerging cricketer.

This happened during the Heritage Cup quarter-final match between Bedfordshire Young Farmers CC and Potton Town CC where Cook represented Bedfordshire. The southpaw came out to bat at number five with his team chasing a target of 155 in 12 overs. He scored a quickfire 20 before being castled by the youngster. In the end, Potton Town CC emerged victorious by 26 runs.
Alastair Cook was an integral part of the England squad from 2006 to 2018 and with 12,472 runs, he is the fifth-highest Test run-scorer of all time behind Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis and Rahul Dravid. He scored a century in his Test debut against India at Nagpur in March 2006 and went on to become the sixteenth English cricketer to score a century on his red-ball debut.
Apart from being England’s highest run-scorer in the longest format, he was also one of their finest captains. Under Cook’s captaincy, the Three Lions registered a famous Test series win on Indian soil in the 2012/13 season and finished as the runners-up in the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 where they went down to MS Dhoni’s spirited Indian team.
