The girlfriend of an expectant father stabbed to death at the Notting Hill Carnival has said she ‘felt their unborn baby kicking’ as he lay dying.
Takayo Nembhard, 21, from Bristol, was killed during crowded scenes at the event in London on Monday night.
The fatal attack on Mr Nembhard, a rapper who performed as TKorStretch, was one of seven reported stabbings at the annual event.
Paying tribute to the father-to-be, girlfriend Oshian Edwards said she will see him in their son “every day”.
Sharing photos of the couple together, including one of Mr Nembhard cradling his baby bump, Ms Edwards wrote on Instagram: ‘Takayo my sweet beautiful boy all I can ask is why again and again.
“You were the most kind, loving, funny and caring person.
“I sit here with sore eyes and a heavy heart as I have cried constantly for the past 12 hours carrying your unborn son.
“I will remind him daily how great you were as a son, brother, boyfriend and friend too!
“The love I have for you will never end and I will honor your name every day.
“I will take care of your sisters to the best of my abilities. They loved you so much. We have all done it.
“I held your hand yesterday for the last time as you ruled [sic] there lifeless and baby T kicked me right away and it broke me.
“It’s just not fair, we live in such a cruel world. I’m so angry and yet I’m told I have to stay strong for the baby.
“The support you had in hospital yesterday from your family and friends was so sweet. I just wish you knew how much you were truly loved.
“I love you with all my heart and I’m so happy to be able to share something so special with you and I know I’ll see you in him every day.”
Mr Nembhard’s manager, Chris Patrick, has confirmed he was the victim of the attack on Tuesday morning.
He revealed that the rapper, who has over 300,000 plays to one of his songs on Spotify and almost 11,000 monthly listeners, was visiting the carnival with his sister and friends.
Mr Patrick said he met the budding young musician when he visited his studio with his father two years ago.
“That meeting took us on a journey…we recorded great music together,” he said.
“His talent was endless and I can tell you he was close to greatness!
“So it is with a heavy heart that I announce the news that Takayo (TKorStretch) passed away last night.
“He came from Bristol just to have a good time at London Carnival and here is the end result!
“My deepest condolences to TK’s mom and dad, brother, 2 sisters, girlfriend and child who will never meet his dad!
“TK was a good boy, a good guy and what happened breaks my heart.”
A family member at Mr Nembhard’s home in Bristol has confirmed he died at the carnival and asked to be given privacy to mourn him.
Mr Nembhard had also been a talented schoolboy footballer, spending time as an academy player for Bristol Rovers.
The Metropolitan Police have opened a murder investigation into Mr Nembhard’s death.
The force said officers were called to report a stabbing under the Westway flyover at Ladbroke Grove around 8pm on Monday.
Police and paramedics gave Mr Nembhard first aid and he was taken to hospital, where he later died.
Police said 209 arrests were made at the carnival early Tuesday, including 46 for assault, 36 for drug possession, 33 for possession of an offensive weapon, 27 public order offenses and eight sexual assaults.
There were also 74 officers injured over the two days.
