The Union Health Ministry said on Monday that media reports alleged that the Center has not given any new orders for COVID-19, the vaccines are absolutely untrue and not based on facts.
Some news reports claimed that the final order was in March 2021 with two vaccine manufacturers – Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech.
According to reports, 100 million doses were ordered from Serum Institute of India and 20 million doses from Bharat Biotech in March 2021.
However, the ministry said in a statement that these media reports are completely false and not based on facts.
The Ministry further stated that 8.744 crore doses have been distributed till 3 May, against the final order of 10 crore doses for the supply of the coviculated vaccine.
“It is clarified that 100% advance of Rs. 1732.50 crore (Rs. 1699.50 crore after TDS) was released to Serum Institute of India (SII) on 28.04.2021 for 11 crore doses of Covicil Vaccine during May, June and July. Was done and it was received. By them on 28.04.2021, “the ministry said.
It further stated that 0.8813 crore doses have been given till 3 May, against the last order of 2 crore doses for the supply of Kovaxin vaccine.
He added that in addition, 100% advance amounting to Rs 787.50 crore (Rs 772.50 crore after TDS) was released to Bharat Biotech on April 28, 2021, for a dose of five crore kovaxins during May, June and July, and April was received by him. 28 only.
The ministry said the government would continue to purchase 50% of the monthly Central Drugs Laboratory (CDL) vaccines that were vaccinated under liberalized pricing and the accelerated national COVID-19 vaccination strategy.
It also said that it would continue to provide them completely free of charge to the state governments as was being done earlier.
