“India is a big country, and if there are big outbreaks, then surely we are going to worry about more variants, which will be bad for Indians, and … it will spread around the world,” Dr. Ashish said Jha. “So part of keeping America safe is getting vaccinated all over the world.”
The White House promised to send over $ 100 million worth of medical supplies to India, as the country breaks the global infection record on a daily basis. The country registered more than 300,000 new cases for 12 straight days, but experts fear the actual number may be much higher. Data shows that about 2% of India’s population has been fully vaccinated against Kovid.
Jha told CNBC’s “The News with Shepard Smith” because the US is now at a point where it has more supply of vaccines than demand, so that the US distributes them globally.
“I think we should share them with the world more widely, allowing them to be vaccinated, that’s how we will end the epidemic globally.”
