Jhulan Goswami’s four-wicket haul and Smriti Mandhana’s unbeaten 80-run knock helped India beat South Africa by nine wickets in the second ODI of the five-match series at the ODI Cricket Stadium here on Tuesday.
With this win, the hosts have now tied the five-match series 1–1. Both teams will now play the Horns in the third ODI on the same ground on Friday.

Chasing 158 runs, India’s batsman Smriti Mandhana hit two sixes off the first two balls and gave the hosts the early momentum. However, the Proteas played a stormy innings and in the fifth over of the innings, Shamim Ismail gave a clean bold to Jemimah Rodrigues (9).
Punam Raut added memory in the middle and the pair did not let the momentum slow down for the host team.
Both batsmen took an unbeaten stand of 138 runs as the hosts won with 128 balls remaining on nine wickets. Punam remained unbeaten on 62 runs while giving Smriti company.
Earlier, Jhulan’s four wickets helped South Africa crush India for 157 runs. Said to bat first, South Africa recovered from a poor start as match-winners from the first ODI, Liezel Lee (4) and Laura Volvard (9). The pavilion was sent back by the fifth over, bringing the visiting team to 20/2.
Lee was dismissed by Jhulan Goswami, while Volvard was sent back to the pavilion by Mansi Joshi. Captain Sunil Luce and Lara Goodall then came together at the crease and the two batsmen shared a 60-run partnership to revive the Proteas innings.
But as the Proteas innings began to return to normal, Mansi Joshi dismissed Luis (36) in the 21st over. Shortly thereafter, Rajeshwari Gaekwad dismissed Mitton du Preez (11) to dismiss the Proteas at 99/4 in the 26th over.
Jhulan and Harmanpreet Kaur got big scallops from Marizne Kapp (10) and Gudal (49) and put the Proteas on the backfoot in the 34th over at a score of 130/6 and the hosts now finished the innings in an instant. Was wanting
The Proteas lower-order was not able to provide much resistance and in the end, was bowled out for 157 runs within 41 overs. Mansi Joshi returned with two wickets while Gaikwad took three wickets.
