Ashwin double strike gets India back in the game
A long-standing partnership between Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green (114 off 170) ended at the hands of Ravi Ashwin.
The Aussie duo put together 208 runs across the opening two days before Ashwin caught a snick of Green’s glove that was caught by Srikar Bharat behind the stumps.
Alex Carey would replace the 23-year-old out on the crease and unfortunately for the visitors didn’t last long.
Carey (0 off 4) tried to loft the ball over the covers but caught a thick edge and was taken by Axar Patel for a duck.
Ashwin delivered exactly what India were after in a two wicket-maiden over, getting the home side back into the game.
Not long after, the right-arm spinner claimed Mitchell Starc as the Aussies started to fall quickly.
Green’s maiden tonne one to remember
Cameron Green has reached heights he has never before, scoring the elusive 100 runs in a test match, topping his 84 at the SCG in 2021.
Green – who’s been the Robin to Khawaja’s Batman in the fourth test – rushed to the century off 146 balls, playing brilliantly through the covers across the opening two days.
After making seven 50s, the 23-year-old finally broke through and deservedly so.
Green came in when Australia were 4/170 and has carried them to a strong total of 350 and counting with Khawaja at the other end.
Khawaja hits another milestone
Khawaja’s innings continue to get better and better as he reaches the 150-run mark.
It was an emotional century for the veteran opener who has battled for his spot in the side over the past decade, especially overseas.
However, Khawaja has put all doubters and silencers to bed, helping set up the Aussies in the last test of the India tour.
World rallies around Australian cricket captain Cummins
Australian test captain Patrick Cummins had to return home following some distressing family news.
It is with a heavy heart that Cummins and his family revealed the sad passing of his mother, Maria.
As a touching tribute to the nation’s captain, the Australian Cricket team issued the following statement:
“We are deeply saddened at the passing of Maria Cummins overnight. On behalf of Australian Cricket, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Pat, the Cummins family and their friends. “The Australian Men’s team will today wear black armbands as a mark of respect.”
The cricketing world showed their support for Cummins and their family.
