Warner’s 92 off 58 set the dream stage for DC to dominate the game.

The 50th match of the Indian Premier League 2022 saw Delhi Capitals standing tall against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Mumbai with David Warner as the hero of the night. Kane Williamson had the toss in his favour and he invited Rishabh Pant and his men to tick off the scoreboard first. While Mandeep Singh went without disturbing the scorers, it seemed like Warner burned brightest in the flame of revenge to smash the bowlers of his former franchise for fun.

Warner’s 92* off 58 set the perfect stage for DC to make big plans and Rovman Powell added to the cause by finishing on a stunning 67* off 35. Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked one wicket while conceding at 6.20 whereas Umran Malik produced bullets yet again while breaking his own record of fastest delivery in IPL 2022.

Khaleel Ahmed was the top pick from DC’s bowling artillery

Chasing a massive target of 208 runs set by DC, SRH’s top order failed to pitch in with a crucial contribution. Runs came flowing from the middle order but were not enough to keep up with the required rate. Aiden Markram (42 off 25) and Nicholas Pooran (62 off 34) were the warriors of the Orange Army but they remained 21 runs short of the target towards the end. Khaleel Ahmed picked three wickets for DC while conceding at 7.50

Winning skipper, Rishabh Pant said:

There is always room for improvement, but it’s close a perfect game for us as a batting unit. I was calm about myself. In high chases, the other team needs 10-12 runs per over, it’s difficult to hit till the 20th over. I was telling the bowlers to be calm. (On Warner) The way he batted, the way he paced the innings, it’s one of the best innings. We knew what he (Powell) can give us, we backed him and he’s coming out with flying colours now. We are just taking one game at a time and trying to give our 100%. I got out to a full-toss, that’s part and parcel of the game. Good and important win for us.

Losing skipper, Kane Williamson said:

I mean they had a fantastic total. As a batting unit we had a lot of belief. You know for us it is just going back to the drawing board. Outstanding knock from David Warner and later by Powell. Fantastic learning opportunities for everyone. Umran has been a fantastic find. You learn from the best when you come up against them. Things can change quickly if we put things together. They have had rhythm batting in the middle order. Those two (Pooran and Markam) have been good. Just trying to play a role for the team. Staying patient. Every team is strong. Trying to contribute to the team’s cause.

Player of the match, David Warner said:

It’s a really nice wicket, I’ve had some success here. I knew if I played my strokes, it was going to come off. Challenging here in Mumbai with the humidity and I was cooked there towards the back end, I am getting older. Having Rovman at the other end was amazing. I didn’t need extra motivation, we’ve seen what’s happened before, it was good to get the win. It was silly of me to run fast (while batting with Powell), he hit some clean, even Livo the other day. These guys are clearing the fence like anything. (On playing the switch-hit) I thought he (Bhuvi) was going to bowl a yorker, it was wider. As I tried to turn, I actually saw Jos play one recently. I practised that in the nets, You got to try these shots. I said to him (Powell), I am running two no matter what and I don’t care if I get run-out. I am glad he could clear the fence.
