Tanner Mordecai threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Roderick Robertson Jr. in his final play to give SMU a 39-37 victory at Louisiana Tech in a non-conference game on Saturday.
Austin Kendal hit Marcus Williams Jr. with an 11-yard strike with 5:07 remaining, and Cesar Barajas scored a 38-yard field goal, giving Louisiana Tech a 37-33 advantage and playing at 36.
Mordecai drove Mustang 73 yards in six plays for the winner of the game.
The game featured a former Oklahoma quarterback as the opposite starter. Both Mordecai and Kendall were Sooners in 2018 before choosing to transfer. Mordecai is in the 4th grade. Kendall is a 6th year graduate.
Mordecai finished 36 out of 48 with 395 yards and five touchdowns. Kendall was 24 out of 41 with 351 yards and four touchdowns, but was picked off once and ran to score.
SMU (3-0) launched a 579-yard attack and did not turn the ball over. Louisiana Tech (1-2) made a 483 yard attack on the turnover.
Both quarterbacks hit the first quarter bomb. Kendal hit Treharris with a 62-yard touchdown in the first quarter and found him again, third from 11 yards. Mordecai struck Rashi Rice on a 41-yard strike in the first quarter.
