The traffic light system for overseas travel has ended today and has been replaced by two layers: Red List countries and other countries.
Trade associations want the change in rules to make travel easier and encourage more vacationers to travel abroad. Traveling abroad should be cheaper as only one PCR test is required for travel.
What does the rule change mean for the holidays?
Overseas destinations are divided into two categories. Red List and other worlds.
Fully vaccinated people can travel to the majority of countries without the need for quarantine. You must have been vaccinated a second time at least 14 days before your trip to be considered fully vaccinated.
The vaccine must have been given by the NHS or an internationally approved vaccination program, but many jabs given in other countries are not accepted in the UK.
Previously, passengers arriving in the United Kingdom had to undergo a pre-departure antigen (immunoflow) test three days before departure. Currently, travelers do not need to present evidence of a negative test prior to travel, and one PCR test is booked shortly after returning home.
Last week, Scotland decided to coordinate its approach to “reluctant” international travel with the rest of the UK. That is, the same rules apply.
Do you still need a PCR test?
Previously, double jab travelers returning from countries on the amber list had to undergo two PCR tests on the second and eighth days of arrival.
Starting today, passengers will have to book and pay for a one-time PCR test on or before the second day of their return. You must also complete the Passenger Locator Form before arriving in the country.
The government says that even if your trip to the UK is less than two days, you still need to book and pay for the Covid test on the second day.
Can I travel to the UK from a Red List country?
Travel from Red List countries to the United Kingdom is only permitted to British and Irish citizens and those with residence rights.
Traveling from Red List countries requires a 10-day stay at a quarantine hotel at a cost of £ 2,285 per adult. This applies to everyone, regardless of vaccination status.
Here you must take the test before and after the 2nd and 8th day of quarantine.
Direct flights from Red List countries can only reach London Heathrow and Birmingham airports, and only indirect flights to the following locations are available:
- Heathrow Airport
- Gatwick Airport
- London City Airport
- Birmingham Airport
- Bristol Airport
- Newcastle Airport
- Fernbara Airport
- Begin Hill Airport
Which country is on the Red List?
Red List destinations are considered by travelers to be at the highest risk of coronavirus. Currently, there are 54 countries on the Red List of Travel, including a wide range of Africa and Latin America.
- Cape Verde
- Congo (Democratic Republic)
- Costa Rica
- Dominican Republic
- French Guiana
- Sierra Leone
- South Africa
- sea bream
- Republic of Trinidad and Tobago
Why is the traffic light system abolished?
The traffic light system was accused of being confused and overly complex with a green list, an amber list, an amber plus list, and a red list.
The family reported that they would scramble back to the UK as the country was moved from one list to another with little warning. This means that the rules that must be followed during the trip have changed.
