Spencer Rattler passed 304 yards and No. 2 Oklahoma defeated Tulane 40-35 on Saturday in a game relocated from New Orleans for Hurricane Aida.
Oklahoma led 5 in the fourth quarter and Tlane had ownership, while quarterback Michael Platt ran 12 yards in fourth and thirteen plays. Chulane turned the ball down and Oklahoma ran out of clock.
Oklahoma’s Gabe Brikic scored an FBS record with three field goals over 50 yards, and Marvin Mims made five catches at 117 yards in Sooners (1-0).
Pratt passed 296 yards and three touchdowns on the Green Wave (0-1). He ran for another score.
In Oklahoma, a green wave was drawn on a 25-yard line, and Snurs fans cheered when Tulane players rushed to the field before the game.
Tulane started scoring with a 6-yard touchdown pass from Pratt to Cameron Carroll. Greenwave rose 14-7 in the first quarter with Jaetavian Toles up 14-7 with a 15-yard touchdown.
Oklahoma scored the next 30 points, taking a 37-14 lead in the break.
Brkic achieved three field goals in the second quarter. His second was a 51-yard player, and he closed half with the best 56-yard player of his career. It was the longest field goal for Oklahoma kickers since 1977.
Pratt scored with a 4-yard keeper and Greenwave got a 2-point conversion to make it 37-22.
When Pratt threw a five-yard touchdown pass at Carol, Tulane reduced his deficit to 40-28. Pratt stumbled on a two-point attempt and fell into the backfield.
Brkic missed a 31-yard field goal and lags behind Tulane. Pratt’s five-yard touchdown pass to Will Wallace was 40-35 with 2:18 remaining, and Traine recovered his onside kick before failing to score.
Tulane: Greenwave played inspiring football and almost stopped one of the biggest turmoil in school history.
Oklahoma: Sooners couldn’t get the game done because they couldn’t run the ball in the second half. Oklahoma scored only 3 points after the break.
Tulane will host Morgan State University on Saturday.
Oklahoma will host Western Carolina on Saturday.
