A 27-year-old North Texas woman receives a gift of health from her Kentucky cousin.
Lizzie Porter immediately receives a new kidney from her cousin Sarah.
“I always wanted to be a living donor,” said Sarah Porter.
Lizzie Porter lives in McKinney. She was diagnosed with kidney disease a few years ago.
“My kidney function has declined in the range of 7% to 10% over the last three years,” says Lizzie.
After taking the test and finding out that she was a perfect match, Sarah flew from Kentucky to Texas to help her cousin.
“The fact that I love so much and I’m from someone very close to me is even better,” Lizzie said.
Lizzie has joined the list of over 90,000 Americans waiting for a new kidney. Her journey began with a joke that Sarah made 10 years ago.
“We took a vacation 10 years ago. Lizzie soon got sick and I jokingly said,” If you need a kidney, let me know, “Sara said.
Their surgery will take place on Tuesday in Dallas’ Medical City.
“I feel very good. You don’t even know what to do yourself. That’s my hope,” Lizzie said.
