Birbhum/Bengal Latest News: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after she visited Bogtui village in Birbhum district, where eight people were burnt alive earlier this week. The BJP as well as the Congress and other opposition parties have been targeting Mamata over the brutal incident, while emphasizing that the law and order situation in Bengal has completely collapsed under the Trinamool Congress rule.
Addressing a press briefing at the party headquarters in New Delhi, senior BJP leader Sambit Patra said that reception gates were made for Mamata in Birbhum by his party. “It is insensitive and shameless at its peak,” he said.
Patra said that 26 political murders have taken place in West Bengal in a week. “There have been 26 political killings in Bengal in the last one week. Mamata Banerjee should have stopped them, but it did not happen. In Birbhum, where the brutal killings took place, local women said the police were absent after the incident,” she said. .
Taking a jibe at Mamata, who visited the violence-hit village today, Patra said, “Sau hataye kar karva, didi Haj ko chali (Didi is going for Haj after killing 100 people).”

Mamta Banerjee met the families of the victims in the village and assured that those responsible would be caught soon. He also asked a police officer present on the spot to take action against the guilty policemen.

He announced an assistance of Rs 1 lakh to the families to repair their burnt houses. Mamta later revised the amount to Rs 2 lakh after complaining from the affected families that the money being given was not enough.
