Taylor Swift has congratulated her fans for their continued support after winning the first top gong at the 2022 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA).
The US megastar, 32, won Best Long Form Video for his 10-minute version of All Too Well (Taylor’s Version), beating out the world’s biggest stars including Foo Fighters and Stormzy.
Swift is set to win big in her six nominated categories – which include Best Artist, Best Pop and Best Fans, with only Harry Styles vying for more awards at the ceremony at the PSD Bank Dome in Dusseldorf, Germany. .
Accepting the first prize from John Lennon’s son and singer, Julian, who presented the award, she said: “It’s so good to be back at the EMAs. You are all very beautiful tonight.
The singer-songwriter continued, “I’ve been writing and directing my music video for a long time, but it was the first short film I’ve made and I felt like I learned so much about myself. -even that directing a film can be a natural extension of my storytelling, as can writing songs.
Swift also thanked actors Dylan O’Brien and Sadie Sink who starred in the music video and praised her fans for their continued support, adding, “You are the reason everything happened to me.”
The track went viral earlier this year after fans speculated the song was based on Swift’s split from actor Jake Gyllenhaal.
It also won the prestigious Gong Video of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this year.
British band Muse went on to take home the Best Rock award after delivering an electric performance on their new track Will Of The People at the start of the ceremony.
This year’s ceremony is hosted by singer-songwriter Rita Ora and Oscar-winning filmmaker Taika Waititi. This is the sixth time that the award ceremony has taken place in Germany.
It’s the first time the couple have worked together after keeping their partnership out of the spotlight since they first sparked relationship rumors last year after appearing side by side on red carpets .
In the nominations, the former One Direction Styles star will face compatriot Adele for the best artist award in a category dominated by Americans, including Beyonce, Swift and Nicki Minaj as well as Spanish singer Rosalia.
British stars like Ed Sheeran, Calvin Harris and Coldplay are also among the nominees.
A series of famous faces are also set to take on award-winning duties, including Baywatch star David Hasselhoff and Eurovision finalist Sam Ryder.
Speaking ahead of the awards ceremony on the red carpet, OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder heaped praise on Swift, telling the PA News Agency: “I would say followers and social media , I’m not going to lie, it’s way more important than I want it to have been.
“Your ability to write great material is the most viable asset you have as an artist – more than your looks, more than your attitude. Your talent. Are you good at telling your story?
“Look at Taylor Swift. She’s a great example. She’s a better writer than everyone else. That’s why she wins.
Eurovision champions Kalush Orchestra will also perform during the event.

The 2022 MTV EMAs will air live on MTV on November 13 at 8 p.m. GMT and can also be viewed on Paramount + UK from November 14.
