Tencent has applied for an AI patent aimed at providing automated commentaries for live gaming streams, according to a recent report. The technology would enable streamers to broadcast gaming sessions without having to provide live commentaries, as the AI would do it in real-time. This would make content creation more efficient and save resources for streamers.
The automated commentaries would be generated based on the “game instruction frame,” which refers to an in-game event triggered during virtual performance. Tencent provided an example from what appears to be a MOBA game, with the commentary reading “Cheng xx has been slain.”

Although Tencent has not confirmed whether the technology is specifically being developed for Arena of Valor, its mobile MOBA, or League of Legends, the patent stated that the company’s aim is to develop a technology that could be used for all types of competitive games, including sports, simulation, and shooting games.
If the technology is successful, it could greatly simplify the work of content creators and assist casters covering esports games. The release date of the technology is currently unclear. Patent filing is often the first step in protecting a company’s intellectual property.
