Thousands of people filled the streets of New York City on Thursday morning to celebrate the resurrection of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade after the annual tradition was dramatically reduced last year. .. For many around and outside the city, the return of the parade to full glory marks a new step towards a return to normal.
This year was the 95th parade, but it has hardly been canceled since it began almost a century ago, except for the three years during World War II.
The parade began at 9am from West 77th Street and Central Park West and traveled 2.5 miles to Midtown Manhattan. The balloons featured at the event included Smokey Bear, Sonic the Hedgehog, Papa Smurf, and SpongeBob SquarePants. The balloons that debut in the parade include Ada Twist, a popular fairy tale scientist.
