United Airlines suspended flights nationwide on Friday morning, with reported system outages.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration website, the airline has issued ground stops for all traffic in the United States and Canada.
In a statement before 8 am, the airline stated that “a technical system problem had occurred” and that all systems were functioning properly again.
“We are aware of this issue and are working to resolve it as quickly as possible,” the company wrote on Twitter to address consumer complaints. “I’m sorry for the inconvenience.”
For technical reasons, airlines may suspend flights called ground stops. In many cases, the outage is temporary and service will resume immediately, but delays and in some cases cancellations may occur. In some cases, ground outages can be part of a more permanent mess.
