In a significant political development in Uttar Pradesh, the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party has won 15 of the 40 Zilla Panchayat seats in Varanasi. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came second after winning only 8 seats.
In Ayodhya too, the Samajwadi Party has won 24 out of 40 Zilla Panchayat seats while the BJP can win six seats. Mayawati-led BSP won 5 seats, while independents won five seats.

This is a warning sign for us and we need to set things right before the assembly elections next year, ”news agency IANS quoted him as saying.
