With a heavy sigh, Don Riddle spoke heavily about the life and loss of his daughter, 30-year-old Cassie Riddle.
“All the things I know how to do in my life, I don’t know how to bury my baby,” Riddle said.
A loving mother of two to 11-year-old Luke and 8-year-old Gabriel, she was one of six siblings and a student at Texas A&M Commerce about to pursue her degree in biology. Riddle said she dreams of becoming a vet.
A runner in high school in Cassie, his home state of Arkansas, he says, moved to Texas so that his oldest son with special needs could get better treatment.
Despite their distance, Riedl says, she remained close.
“We spent the weekend with each other last weekend,” he said, holding tears.
This week, Kylie was identified as the victim in a fatal shooting incident in Willie.
Riddle says Cassie was in a relationship with Sean Myers, the man police have described the incident as suspicious but ended the relationship earlier this year.
“Prayer needs to happen for everyone,” Riddle said.
When he arrived in North Texas from his home in Texarkana, Riddle said he showed a recent photo of Cassie to an officer who responded to the scene.
“I said this is a picture of my daughter that they have not seen, because they are seeing her on the worst day and I wanted to make sure they knew someone else.”
Willie police say the case is being investigated as a homicide and has requested the Texas Rangers to conduct an independent investigation.
Riddle says he wants people to remember their daughter for the life she lived and not how she died.
“He is more than just an event, a whole life,” he said.
