In a recent hearing at Fulton County Superior Court, Judge Scott McAfee made an important announcement regarding the upcoming trial involving former President Donald Trump and 18 others. He stated that the court proceedings for the case related to alleged interference in the Georgia election would be broadcast live via live stream and televised for the public to access.
During the hearing, Judge McAfee shared that the court had been consistently live-streaming its major proceedings on a YouTube channel provided by Fulton County. He confirmed that this same approach would be adopted for this high-profile case. This decision was in line with the court’s commitment to transparency and openness.
Furthermore, Judge McAfee shed light on two prior orders he had issued. These orders allowed for still photography and video photography during the court proceedings. Although these orders were initially set to expire on September 8th, Judge McAfee expressed his intention to extend this arrangement in six-month intervals to ensure comprehensive coverage of the trial. He emphasized the need to work out the logistics and mentioned that it seemed they would gain ample practice in this regard.

In a separate order issued on the same day, Judge McAfee also gave permission for the use of cellphones and laptops within the courtroom throughout the trial. The order stated, “It is hereby authorized that all parties and spectators are allowed to use recording devices … or non-recording purposes throughout the duration of this case.” This decision aimed to accommodate attendees who might need their devices for various reasons while maintaining the integrity of the trial.
Judge McAfee made it clear that those present in the courtroom could use their phones or laptops for communication purposes. However, any recording of the trial itself would be restricted to the official television coverage and the live stream provided by the court. This restriction was crucial in maintaining the court’s control over the dissemination of trial information.
The case in question involves serious allegations. Trump and 18 others were charged in a sweeping racketeering indictment earlier in the month. The charges revolve around alleged efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in the state of Georgia. While the former president maintains that his actions were legal and that the investigation is politically motivated, the trial will ultimately determine the outcome of these allegations.
With the assurance of live streaming, televised coverage, and the allowance of recording devices for non-recording purposes within the courtroom, the public will have the opportunity to closely follow the proceedings and form their own opinions about this significant legal matter. The decision to enhance transparency in this manner underscores the court’s commitment to upholding the principles of justice and the rule of law.
