When will season 5 premiere?
In May, Paramount Network announced that the fifth season of Yellowstone would premiere on Sunday, November 13th.
The announcement of the premiere date for Yellowstone Season 5 was made shortly after it was reported that production had begun on the show, consistent with executive producer David Glasser’s previous statements in January that filming was scheduled to start in May.
Although a specific date for the release of the second half of Yellowstone Season 5 has not yet been announced, Paramount has confirmed that the show will be returning during the summer of 2023.
Here, a sneak peek at filming:

What’s in store for season 5?
“In September, actors Cole Hauser, Kelly Reilly, and Luke Grimes spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming season of Yellowstone.
Hauser, who plays Rip, mentioned that the season will begin with “wonderful moments” between Rip and Beth, played by Reilly, but that Beth will be dealing with personal issues that she has never faced before.
Reilly added that Beth will be struggling with internal battles this season and is haunted by the past, worried about the future, and fighting for the present.
It seems that the newlywed couple will face challenges in the upcoming season.”

According to actor Luke Grimes, who plays Kayce, he will continue to face struggles in the upcoming season. Grimes stated, “In true Kayce fashion, there’s no relief from the sort of rock and a hard place that he’s in between.”
In August, actor Kevin Costner, who plays John Dutton, spoke to Extra about the direction of the show in the upcoming season and potentially beyond. Costner revealed that John’s story will focus on his efforts to hold onto his land and protect it from those who wish to take it from him. Costner also addressed rumors about John’s potential death on the show, stating that he is not planning to leave the show anytime soon and that the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, is writing at a high level. Costner did not provide any information about the show’s potential end or if he and Sheridan have discussed the show’s future.
Actor Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth Dutton, spoke to Vulture in June about the upcoming season. She hinted that the Duttons will face new adversaries who may be inspired by real-world events, such as billionaires attempting to buy up land in Montana. Reilly also stated that the show is not coming to an end, despite speculation to the contrary. Paramount has not yet announced any official plans for the show’s future beyond Season 5.
The cast is expanding
Little has been revealed about the plot of Season 5 of Yellowstone, but some information can be inferred from the casting announcements that have been made.
In June, it was announced that Josh Lucas would be returning to the show as the younger version of John Dutton, as well as Kylie Rogers as young Beth and Kyle Red Silverstein as young Rip. This suggests that there will be flashbacks to the family’s past in the upcoming season.
Jacki Weaver, who played the Duttons’ corporate adversary Caroline Warner, will also be returning to the show. Mo Brings Plenty and Wendy Moniz have been promoted to series regulars for Season 5. These casting choices suggest that we may see the return of familiar faces and conflicts from the past, as well as the introduction of new characters and challenges for the Dutton family
Season 5 of Yellowstone will also introduce some new characters. Kai Caster, known for his role in American Horror Story, will play a young cowboy named Rowdy. Lainey Wilson will portray a musician, while Lilli Kay will play an assistant to the Duttons. Dawn Olivieri, who previously appeared on the show as James Dutton’s sister Claire, will take on a new role as the corporate shark Sarah Atwood.
Jen Landon, who plays Teeter, and Kathryn Kelly, who plays Jimmy’s fiancee Emily, have been promoted to series regulars for the upcoming season. Jefferson White, who plays Jimmy, is also set to return to the show, suggesting that earlier speculation that he could be moving to the spin-off show 6666 may not come to fruition.
The rest of Yellowstone’s core cast is expected to return for Season 5, including Kevin Costner, Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, Brecken Merrill, Forrie Smith, Denim Richards, Ian Bohen, Finn Little, Ryan Bingham, and Gil Birmingham.
The Yellowstone universe is growing.
In addition to the upcoming Season 5 of Yellowstone, creator Taylor Sheridan has already begun to expand the show’s universe on Paramount+. In addition to the existing prequel 1883, which stars Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, and Sam Elliott, the streaming service also has another Yellowstone origin story set in the Great Depression era titled 1923. This show will star Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. Sheridan has also signed a deal for an in-development spinoff, currently titled 6666. These projects will further explore the history and world of Yellowstone, offering new stories and characters for fans to enjoy.
Like 1883 and Sheridan’s other upcoming projects for Paramount, 6666 is expected to be available to stream on Paramount+. While no official release date has been announced, it is expected to debut sometime in 2023. The synopsis for the show suggests that it will be set in the modern day on the historic 6666 Ranch in West Texas. This ranch, which covers over 266,000 acres, was acquired by Sheridan and will serve as the backdrop for the new series.
Is this the last season?
At this time, there has been no official announcement about a potential sixth season of Yellowstone. However, it is worth noting that Paramount Network did not confirm the fifth season until well after the season four finale aired, so it is possible that more news about the show’s future will be announced in the future. Until then, fans will have to wait and see.
